This weekend a few friends and I planned a trip to Crater Lake National Park. The above photo (and most of the ones below) were taken by my good friend, Matt. And, yes, the scenery was just as beautiful as the photos show.
When we drove into the park, I was mystified by the butterflies and dragonflies just bouncing off the windshield. I don't know about dragonfly populations, but oddly enough I heard that butterflies are at their highest populations in a decade. In some places around Mt Hood the butterflies have been causing "orange outs" --where butterfly populations are so thick people can't even see a hand in front of their face. Bizarre, right?
Camping was SO much fun. Right after work on Friday, my boyfriend and I drove down to Eugene and spent the night at Mary's. Highlights of the night include Mary greeting us at the door with warm freshly made chocolate chip cookies and cold milk, and her kitten (Lucy) wiping fresh poop on my boyfriend's pillow.
Saturday morning we headed to Crater Lake were we met Matt, Shawn, and Mel. We went on a hike, watched the sunset, and that night we had spaghetti, smores, and champagne by the fire. Sunday morning we went on a hike down to the lake... The hike back to the road was killer, and I never want to hike that again. Never.

That looks really beautiful, but I don't think I'd go camping there.... I'm more of a daytrip kind of guy, I depend on the perks of modern civilisation a bit too much.

I'm jealous :(
The only time I ever hear the word hike around here is when I tell guys who hit on me to go take one :(

Now you understand why they put Crater Lake on our state quarter.

If you think that crater is beautiful you should see some of the waterfall state parks near the twin cities area. Many of them would be a great place to a put a bar near. Unfortunately that portion of state owned land is not licensed or auctioned off. Your friend Matt has an oral-cheek faux-angry fixation (in every photo.)(whats up with that?) For me--alls I need is a colgate smile.
