After years of wanting a car and months of looking for one, I picked a Honda Civic Hybrid to call my very own. My car is pretty low-tech --except that it is an automatic, has power windows and doors, and keyless entry... But heated seats? Nope. Onstar? Nope. Heated mirrors? Nope. Camera for backing up? HELL no. Air conditioning? Well, yes because I'll need AC if I ever want to sell the thing.
I found my car via Craigslist with help from Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds, Carfax, and Car Buying Tips.
I did borrow money to finance the car. Actually, I probably committed to more than I can afford, but I'm sure it'll work out.
I still don't know what I want to store in the back of the car for emergencies. A tool kit? Tow straps? Emergency blakets? A first aid kit? Flashlight? Extra clothes? Ideas anyone?

All you need are jumper cables for when your friends car dies, first aid kit, and a blanket, not emergen cy blanket, more beach blanket, you never know when you will want to sit on the grass, improtu picket or the beach. rock on.

I'd like to have: flares, a first aid kit, chains, and a tow rope... The chains and tow rope are for the snow side of me :-p

If that title is a beastie boy reference, you will have gained 10,000 cool points in my book.

Just sold my Civic a year ago, I used to have in the trunk:
A 4-bar lug wrench (A lesson you learn after having used the silly thing they give new Civic owners to remove the lugnuts.)
Jumper Cables, Rain Jacket, Blanket, Frisbee, Tennis Racket, Some Rope, and a Glock.

Honestly, better than storing stuff in the trunk... get yourself an AAA card. They rock. They also bring their own jumper cables, lug wrenches and jacks. Plus, you can go hit them up for maps and tour books.

Yay, you got a hybrid! Good for you!! :) Me, I'm still traveling the old fashioned way -- not. Being lazy will do that to you. But anyway, congrats!

I know EXACTLY where you're coming from. My Rio is pretty much bare-bones (power NOTHING, automatic, working heat/ a/c, one CD stereo system), but it's all mine and I love it dearly. I don't care if people have anything to say about it just 'cause it's a Kia. At least Honda gets respect. It's got an awesome warranty too, and hey, it took me 2500 miles to the west coast without a hitch (so to speak).
As far as financing goes, I couldn't have gotten it without help from my aunt. So thank god for her.

Also, hopefully Brandon is being factitious about the condom thing. As we all know, one should NEVER EVER EVER store condoms in your vehicle.
And there's your sex ed lesson for the day.
