Oregon State Graduation 2006

DSC_4319.JPGWow, that went fast. Not just yesterday, but the last five years --just zoom. How cliche, right? Everyone tells you that high school goes fast, college goes fast, and that they're the best times of your life. I don't know if I'm ready to accept the last bit of advice, but it does go by quickly. I still carry memories from high school graduation, and there was a lot of parallels between the two graduations. Two hours were still required for the shaving, plucking, straightening, and general inconveniences of being a femme. My mother, of course, hasn't changed. I suppose we all know that I wouldn't want her to.

The process did feel pretty tedious and long-winded. It is a humbling experience when you realize that you must share your "special" day with thousands of other people (mostly strangers) and their families. We all lined up in the quad, and then walked to the stadium. It was exciting to walk onto the football field, welcomed by cheers. I thought I would be impossible to find among the crowd, but I stood on a chair and waved anyways. Good thing too.

I'm not one to enjoy listening to speakers, so I spent much of my time text messaging others sitting around me. It's funny when you know you have a good friend twenty feet behind you but you can't see each other through six rows of people. Well, this chapter of my life is now closing. Now, begins the whirlwind day of packing and moving my life... yet again!

Since I graduated, I put my essays up online, hoping that google will catch them.

Here are two videos I took with my camera phone.

I graduated from there a while back, and I was amazed at the logistics. Thousands of you gather at different places around campus, based on your school. Suddenly everybody starts walking and you end up in the coliseum. You listen to a few speeches, then walk up and someone you never met hands you a folder thingie. You walk back to your seat and open it and it's your diploma! The most impressive thing I ever encountered at OSU. At least that's the way it worked back then.

Congrats. Now get a job! 8>)
