Crazy Graduate Students
A very eccentric graduate student "teaches" my math recitation class. In actuality, he collects our homework every week and watches us take quizzes. I usually just take my quiz, give him my homework, and leave class; we don't exchange a lot of words. Nonetheless, I think he's a bit eccentric. The other week he came into class five minutes late and gave off a rushed speech of sorts. I'll try to summarize it the best I can:
"When I was a undergraduate student I had this writing class. Do you guys have writing classes? Like required? Okay, well, we had required writing class. Oh you do too? Well, okay. We had this one with a star trek theme, and I don't like star trek --but I don't hate it, I just don't watch it. Yeah. So I thought a star trek writing class would be cool and I took it, and it had this graduate student in charge of it, and I always thought he was kinda weird. Yeah. One day he came to class ten minutes late, all out of breath, and I was like, 'Yeah, okay, weirdo.' Then, he said he was out on a lawn all night protecting his friend's stuff because his friend got evicted. Yeah, I don't know who gets evicted but, I've never been evicted and don't hang out with people who get evicted, but I thought, 'Wow, what kind of guy has friends who gets evicted?' Yeah, so now, I'm late and you're probably all thinking, 'Wow, this guy is kinda weird.' Well, I had to take a friend to an airport. Anyways, I just wanted to say that I never thought I'd be that 'weird grad student guy' but I guess I am, huh?"
His story produced some blank stares from majority of the class, but I laughed along with a few other nervous souls. Then, the other day while I'm turning in my homework, I'm trying to collect last week's graded homework.
Him: What's your name?
Me: Uh, Stacy.
Him: Austin?
Me: Uh, yeah. (laugh) That's kinda creepy, but I guess you know everyone's last name.
Him: No, I just know everyone's combination.
Whhhhattt???

Dear Stacy,
I realize you're Korean, but with a Chinese boyfriend, could you ask around and see if you know anybody that wants to discuss Classical Chinese? I think it is a neat subject, but very difficult.
