The Secret Life of an Angry, Korean Girl

the_secret_life_of.jpg

I'll be the first to admit that I watch too much Food Channel. My roommate, Matt always has a very perturbed look on his face because I'm constantly watching people make food. He doesn't understand. Sometimes, I don't either. Half the time the chef is making something way too complex for me, and honestly, it's more entertaining to watch. The cleaning of the dishes just ruins it for me, really.

Of course I watch the cooking shows (My boys: Bobby Flay, Alton Brown, Tyler Florence, and my girls: Paula Deen and Rachael Ray). No one cuter than Rachael Ray and Paula Deen, and guys that cook are hot fo'sho. Though, I think Paul's son's are hot for each other... And Tyler and Bobby are way too hot for themselves. Alton Brown is the coolest though, because he uses science and always has really witty commentary on Iron Chef.

SEE, I TOLD YOU I WATCH THIS CHANNEL TOO MUCH!

The non-cooking, food shows are cool though too (...good way to segway into the point of this post). Side-Note: One show you must check out is Unwrapped because the host is Marc Summers! Remember him on Double Dare?! The coolest show ever on Nickelodeon!? My youth was spent training for that show --from learning random trivia to memorizing the food obstacle course. Oh man, that show was cool. /end side-note

Today, I was watching The Secret Life of... Dumplings. Cooler than it sounds, I promise. I learned all about potstickers and chicken dumplings, where they came from, how they are made, where they are going... Okay, maybe it still doesn't sound very cool. I don't care. The host, Jim O'Connor, who I typically love (though extremely annoying at times) was PISSING ME OFF. He kept saying MAN-DO!

Nothing makes me more angry than people that over-enunciate Korean words. Like kimchi. You've never heard a Korean person say "Kim-CHEE" so why do people say that?! Honestly, if you're going to over-enunciate that word, do the first part, like "GIM-chi." Then, I wouldn't feel the urge to slap you in the face.

Back to Jim O'Connor talking about potstickers. MAN. DO. MAN. DOO. MAN. DO. By the way, he was trying to say "Mahn-do." I understand it is spelt "Mandoo," but if it is the name of a restaurant and a food (on a food channel show, no less), shouldn't he be saying it correctly? Really, Jim, think about it. Do Asian people pronounce Kahn, CAN? No. It's Kahn. Just like it is Mahn-Do.

I think this post says more about how I need to watch less television than the need for the Asian education on Jim O'Connor's part. Oops!

ryc: Yes. There were serving some big ass drinks there.

I too love the Food Channel. Mostly the original Iron Chef though.

I am such a foodie. I watch Foodtv all day. Paula Deen is my favorite, along with Alton Brown.

I totally watch Food Tv when there is nothing on TV. I'm a big fan of Paula Deen!

Unwrapped is a great show, and it's no coincidence that Marc Summers is the host. My brother and I had dreams of being on Double Dare as we were growing up. We had a lot of strategies for how to get all of the flags at then end, and would fight over who wqould get to jump into the giant mouth and slide down the tongue. *sigh* Memories...

Rachel Ray's hot, but Giada De Laurentiis is even hotter. Borrowing from the Sklar brothers, "She's so hot she's an Hitalian".

I saw that Dumpling episode... couldn't believe they muffed the pronunciation of Mandoo several times. That irked me too, so I stopped watchin'. Heh.
