Oktoberfest 2005

An American version of the “Old World” Oktoberfest in Mount Angel, Oregon. Oregon’s oldest and best-loved Oktoberfest began in 1966 as a traditional harvest festival to celebrate the bounty of the earth and the goodness of creation. It is Oregon’s largest folk festival. A nice drive to and from, convenient parking, hot sausages, cool desserts, and of course, good beer.

Notorious for its beer, it’s surpisingly kid-friendly. Continuous live music on four stages, and free Kindergarten with rides and shows. Be weary of the “traditional” Biergarten; it’s beer is limited to Miller’s Lite and Mike’s Hard Lemonade. For a small price, enjoy the Weingarten and Alpinegarten.

From the north on I-5, take the Woodburn exit #271 and follow State Highway #214 to Mt. Angel (approximately ten miles).

From the south on I-5, take the Market Street exit #256 at Salem and follow signs to State Highway #213. Proceed east through Silverton to Mt. Angel (approximately 16 miles).
