I am hoping that everyone here is registered to vote. Of course, I know that with age limitations and sometimes just plain laziness or ignorance, that is probably not the case --but a girl can hope.
Few of you may know that the party you choose to be affiliated with is public knowledge. Yes, it's true. I browsed the Oregon Voter File and Tonya Harding is a D! That's all I can share with you, and I may have to remove that later, because I'm wondering right now how much trouble I can get into for using the voter file (from internship) for personal interests.
I asked The Friendly Fascist at The Basement Internet Show what party he supported, and he gave me rather grim --but definitlely interesting-- point of view.
Whichever one supports freedom, democratic institutions, and civilized government. Which in terms of political parties means - sometimes Democrats, sometimes no one at all.
I'm sorry to say I think the US is at the beginning of a steady and unavoidable decline. The average age of a democracy historically is around 200 years. We're about done. Time for our hegemony to end, and another nation to rise up and take our crown. I just hope I'm dead and cremated before things get too bad.
"I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
I shouted out,
Who killed the Kennedys?
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name,
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game."
- Rolling Stones, Sympathy for the Devil
What hope can I have when my State Governor also seems to be rather depressed with politics as well?
"People thought that the purpose of politics was to do public good. I do not get that sense anymore," Kulongoski said. "It is turning the public sour on their government. I neither want to be a part of it, nor do I have any illusion that I can change it."

Registered Libertarian - though, that doesn't necessarily mean I'll vote it. If I don't like anyone, I won't vote. As sad as it may be, I tend to agree with some of what FF said.

Bleh... it's true what you mean about turning sour on the Government. Ask most people these days what they think the Government is doing for them, and you'll probably get 'Sweet Eff all'

at least your governor isn't Arnold Swarchenegger. How embarrassing...
