I Am Lost in Translation

I just watched Lost in Translation, and can I be the first to say Why all the hype? I really didn't find the movie very entertaining at all. I admit I found it to be very slow and not very clever, and I stopped watching after a little over an hour.

Let's see the summary at imdb: "Excellent motion picture experience that speaks volumes with crazed situations, quiet moments and moving cinematic expressions."

Yawn much?

"Seemingly washed-up American actor Bill Murray (in his greatest role) has come to Tokyo to film an advertisement for a brand of scotch."

I must admit that Groundhog Day is one of my favorite movies, and I can watch it over and over again. But since my dad made me watch What About Bob? multiple times so I could find "the meaning," I haven't been a big Murray fan. Well, and there was Larger Than Life.

"Simultaneously young adult Scarlett Johansson is staying at the same high-rise hotel as Murray with her photographer husband (Giovanni Ribisi). She has just completed her education at Yale (getting a degree in philosophy), but now she does not know what to do with her life."

Yale? Philosophy? Unbelievable? Yes. The only thing more vapid than her dialogue is the constant look on her face. And the Evelyn Waugh comment? I think Kelly has a sense of humor! (Yes, I realize I'm a little biased because Anna Farris looks a lot like one of my roommates.)

So I don't like Lost in Translation. Boo for Lost in Translation.
