So... What The Bleep DO We Know?

Yesterday, Mary turned in her apartment papers, so she'll be my additional roommate in September. Then, we went shopping. Then, due to recommendations from Mary's friend, we watched What The Bleep Do We Know? (Also known as 'What the #$*! Do We Know' but I'll call it 'What The Bleep.')

Marlee Matin is the main actress in the movie. She plays Amanda, a deaf woman, who ironically is blind to her life falling apart around her. Suffering from job, roommate, life problems, including a divorce and then attending a wedding... Honestly, it wasn't very interesting; it felt like a PBS after-school special. And the globs scared me. Then, the unraveling life is editted into interviews with scientific and mystical theories from a variety of perspectives on how our thoughts affect the world around and within us.

Essentially, this movie is about Quantum Physics, knowledge and possibly empowerment. So, I just spent $10 so we could watch a movie about Quantum Physics! Oh boy, oh boy. I spent $10 so we could watch a movie about The Matrix theories, without Keanu Reeves and all that other cool stuff.

And what is up with the globs? Okay, I know the point of the globs... But still. This is not a bad movie. It is a smart movie. I sat through it, I understood it, I enjoyed it. The documentary / science / fiction hybrid was an interesting mix. I loved how it was filmed locally. Everything was so Portland --from MAX to Sunset.

The movie constantly kept asking "Why are we here?" and "What is God?" Questions that we've all asked ourselves. But haven't we drawn our own conclusions?

The scientists that were interviewed were well-chosen. They were nice and easy to understand. Nice to see UO's professor Amit Goswami, renowned quantum physicist. Maybe I'll take a class from him next term.

Okay, so in conclusion, I don't have any qualms with this movie. Watching 'What the Bleep' is like sitting in a college physics class with a really good professor. But after a day of class, sometimes it's not fun.
